Indoor plants create a welcoming and positive environment in your house. Besides adding colour to our house, indoor plants serve more than one purpose. They purify the air, improve your concentration power, and also improve your health. However, as these plants take care of our health, they also need some care and correct amount of nutrients, water and light to grow and remain healthy. Well, not everyone is born with a green thumb, but we have some easy tricks for you, which will help you take better care of your plants.

Tips On How To Keep Your Indoor Plants Healthy

Find a spot with the right light:

Find a spot in your home that receives more light than the other spots. Place your plant there as sunlight is very important for the proper growth of your plants. Also, plants with brightly coloured foliage require more light than the other.

  • Tip: Turning the plant to sunlight will keep its growth even as foliage automatically bends towards the light.

Provide your plant with consistent water:

Just like sunlight, water is also very important for the growth of your plant. Keep providing your plant with consistent water, but make sure you don't overwater it as that may kill your plant. Also, plants with thick, lush leaves require more water as compared to other plants.

  • Tip: Make sure your plant is not sitting on the water for too long. If you observe standing water below the pot or under it, empty it out.
  • Tip 2: In case your houseplant dries out too quickly after watering, tuck a damp sponge at the bottom of the pot while re-potting. The sponge will keep the soil moist for longer.

Teatime with your plant:

Schedule occasional teatime with your plant. While watering the plant use brewed tea as a substitute, this will give your plants a lush, luxurious look.

  • Tip: Read newspapers to your plants as you sip your favourite tea, as this will provide your plants with the much-needed carbon dioxide from your breath.

Use leftover club soda or egg water:

Don't toss over the leftover club soda or water after boiling eggs, hydrate your plants, once a week, with this nutrient-filled liquid.

  • Tip: Let the cooking water cool, before you treat your plants with it.

Make the leaves of your houseplant shine:

Take out a tiny amount of mayonnaise and rub it on the leaves of your plant with the help of a tissue. This will make the leaves of your plant shine for weeks.

  • Tip: You can also use milk if you don't have mayonnaise at home.
