- A saucepan
- Steel bowl or a heat-proof glass bowl
- 3½ tbsp carrier oil (coconut, olive, almond)
- ½ tbsp carrier oil (same as above, or another type like avocado for a richer formulation)
- 1 tbsp or 15 grams of beeswax
- 1 tbsp shea butter or cocoa butter
- Empty lip balm container

Step 1: Prepare your apparatus. Add 1-2 inches of water in a saucepan, then place a steel bowl/heat proof glass bowl on top of it. This will ensure that your lip balm formula doesn't overheat.

Step 2: Without turning on the heat, add 3½ tablespoons of any carrier oil to the top bowl. We recommend sweet almond oil, coconut oil or olive oil for very supple lips.

Step 3: Now add ½ tablespoon of any other type of carrier oil, like avocado, hemp seed or castor oil, to make the formula richer. If you want to keep it simple, you can use the same oil as before.
An additional type of oil is recommended for a DIY lip balm that's extra-nourishing.

Step 4: Then add 1 tbsp (15 grams) of shaved beeswax or beeswax pellets.

Step 5: Add 1 tbsp of a solid butter (not the kind you eat), like shea butter or cocoa butter

Step 6: Now turn the stove on. On low-medium heat, the water will heat up and melt your ingredients. Once this happens, remove the bowl and stir till your formulation is one colour. Then after the formula's cooled off, pour it into a clean lip balm container. You can either wait for your DIY lip balm to harden, or put it in the refrigerator to speed the process.
