1. Anti-Theft Backpack

While travelling solo, backpacks take up the role of our travel partners. These handy and portable closets should be sturdy and spacious enough to carry all the travel essentials safely and conveniently. While rucksacks and backpacks are more popular among hikers and trekkers, suitcases and trolley bags are more preferred for business and luxury travel. Make sure to check the design, storage space, number of compartments, material, the convenience of carrying, purpose, etc. before adding it to the cart. If you are planning to carry your laptop while travelling, make sure to check if the bag offers a laptop sleeve.

2. Comfy Sneakers

Whether or not you have decided to hit the natural trails, the possibility of having to walk for long distances cannot be denied while travelling. From airport runways to exploring the colourful bylanes of your dream city, travel may demand a lot more walking than you had anticipated. Make sure to carry along a pair of strong and comfortable shoes for a hassle-free experience. Before adding that attractive pair of sneakers to your cart, don't forget to carefully check its material, size, design and weight. If you are planning to go for hiking or trekking, also consider the terrain and weather conditions of your destination and do not think twice before investing in a good pair!

3. Waterproof Jacket

Every traveller would agree to the fact that nature can be very unpredictable. One moment you might be sipping on to your mimosas under scorching heat and the other might find you running for your umbrellas to combat the pour. Whether or not you are travelling during monsoon or to a rain prone area, make sure to carry a pair of waterproof jacket with zippered pockets to protect you and your essentials from the pour. Alternately, you can carry an umbrella or a high-quality raincoat as a precautionary measure.

4. Portable Power Bank and Travel Adapters

Modern man relies heavily on gadgets, technology, and the internet. The significance of these necessary evils stands due while travelling as well. Make sure you carry enough charged power banks to resurrect your gadgets to life, even when stuck in places without power. Also, new destinations might have different plugboard styles and voltages which might not entertain your regular chargers. Avoid the chaos by carrying a universal adapter that will act as a connecting bridge between gadgets and sockets of all designs by altering the voltage.

5. Toiletries

Whether or not you are hitting the road, the role of toiletries in our everyday life is unquestionable. Make sure to pack all the necessary toiletries including toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, conditioner, face wash, moisturizer, comb, hairbrush, sunscreen, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, insect repellent creams etc. Instead of adding to the weight of your luggage, you can pack smart by carrying most of these in small tubes or containers, instead of regular size. Make sure to store some of these in handy pockets. You can also dedicate a travel cube to all these essentials.

6. First Aid Kit

Medical emergencies are never on a vacation! Make sure to be prepared in case of accidental abrasions, burns, insect bites, sprains, mild infections, or splinters. 

Don't forget to customize the first-aid kit before travelling add to it - bandages, antiseptic ointments, antibiotic creams, sanitiser, tweezers, disinfectants, painkillers, allergy medication, medicine for fever, stomach ache or nausea, or any other personal medication.

7. Money Belt or Fanny Bags

It is always advised to store your money in separate places to have a safe stash of cash, in case of theft, mugging or leaving behind your wallet accidentally.

For this even segregation of cash, money belts or waist bags are widely preferred. Not only do they provide additional storage space but also keep the money handy.

You can also store some of your cash in secret or hidden pockets in your suitcase/backpack, books, files, etc.

Tips For Solo Travellers

1. Check the weather and local news of the destination that you are planning to visit. 

2. Book your accommodation in advance to be on the safer side. 

3. If you are planning to visit a remote destination, pick up a local SIM card for your phone, for easy connectivity. 

4. Don't hesitate to learn a few basic/local words of the language predominantly spoken in your travel destination. 

5. Make sure to sure your rough itinerary with a loved one, or at least keep them updated about your whereabouts. 

6. Carry a Swiss army knife or pepper spray for self-defence. If possible, learn a few self-defence techniques before the trip. 

7. Always carry an additional hard copy of your tickets, reservation confirmations and passport, just in case. 

8. Consider getting travel insurance before hopping on to your wanderer shoes. 

9. Don't get too ambitious and over-schedule while travelling. Make sure that you get ample rest and sleep during the journey. 

10. Always keep a spare stash of cash with you. Many places might not accept digital wallets or plastic money. 

11. Don't get intoxicated too much to ensure your own safety. 

12. Many hostels, homestays and hotels offer a discount to solo travellers. Research properly to find a package that best suits your pocket.
