What Is the 60-Second Rule?
Cleansing your face (with your fingers) for 60 seconds allows the ingredients in the cleanser to actually work. Most peopl wash their face for like 15 seconds max.— Nai, the Internet's Esthetician (@LaBeautyologist) November 1, 2018
It softens the skin & dissolves sebum blockages better.
Texture & overall evenness improves. #60SecondRule https://t.co/TQk6xkopOz
The 60-second rule for face cleansing is a process where you cleanse your face for a good one minute, using your fingers so that the ingredients in the cleanser get enough time to remove all the dirt and grime. This process not only helps in thoroughly cleansing your skin but also improves the texture, leaving your skin soft and clear.
The 60-second rule helps make your skin breathe, which allows better absorption of skincare products like toners, serums, and moisturisers. The better the absorption, the better the transformation of the skin, for good.
Like any other routine, this cleansing process will not deliver instant results but can take around two weeks to deliver visible changes depending on the condition of the skin. So, have patience and follow the regime religiously to attain clear and illuminated skin.
How To Identify The Need Of 60-Second Rule?
Do you notice some amount of grime on your cotton pad on applying the toner once you've thoroughly cleansed your face using that much-hyped face wash? If yes, it is a clear indication that your skin is still carrying unhealthy dirt and grime, which is blocking the pores and increasing the occurrence of zits, acne and open pores. To allow your skin to absorb all the goodness of skincare products you need to improve the technique of face cleansing. Even an aesthetician takes a good one-minute or more to cleanse your skin so that your skin gets rid of all the makeup, dirt and oil that you walked in with for a facial.
Benefits Of 60-Second Rule For Face Cleansing
- It helps to remove all the dirt and grime from the face and neck
- Clears the sebum effectively
- Helps to improve the texture of your skin
- Helps enhance the skin barrier
- Makes your skin breathable and clear
- Allows absorbing skincare products much effectively
- Makes your skin soft and supple
Don'ts For 60-Second Face Wash Rule
Do not practice the old technique where you're dropping your face wash on the palm and then rubbing in between with some water to foam it up. This will attract more germs and grime that are there in the palm and make no major cleansing difference on the skin.
Dos For 60-Second Face Wash Rule
We suggest you take some amount of face wash on to the palm and then directly spread it onto the cheeks, neck and forehead for a better cleansing effect. Practicing circular and upward strokes will help uplift the facial muscles and prevent the same from sagging or looking dull. You can take some water in to keep the cleansing process going. By the end of 60-seconds, the lather consistency will decrease and that is because it has broken all the impurities present on your skin. This will not just eradicate the sebum, pollutants and grime but will also help with deep cleansing, leaving behind radiant skin.

Personal Verdict on 60-Second Rule
Being an entertainment and beauty enthusiast you come across various skincare products and in my case, I probably end up buying many, like literally too many. Despite buying all the high-end products and not able to see visible results on the skin made me take a back-foot on the recent purchases. But then I was hit by this storm, the "60-second rule" which now has totally changed my skincare game.
I don't have many skin problems but occasional breakouts and dull skin caused by an unhealthy lifestyle have been bothering me for quite some time. Thanks to lockdown and work from home culture that has helped me spare one precious minute for thorough face cleansing. I topped it up with a good skincare regime that included vitamin C serum for AM, Niacinamide for PM, green tea toner, lightweight moisturiser and a good sunscreen (even during indoors but not for PM routine) helped me achieve great skin texture. Let me tell you, this didn't happen overnight and you have to be consistent to see visible changes on your skin.
My skin now appears clean, bright and healthy from within and this motivates me to stick to the rule that has helped me achieve almost wonderous and radiant skin.
Frequently Asked Questions For 60-Second Rule
Will 60-second face cleansing rule make skin dry?
Not at all, its just that you're giving time to the ingredients present in the face wash to activate so that it can eliminate all the gunk leaving behind clean and clearer looking skin.
Can the 60-second rule be adopted by men?
Yes, men too can incorporate this rule into their regime and get ready to see the difference.
What if I miss 60-second rule in my one of the regime?
Never mind, you can perform it in the next regime, but avoid skipping as until your skin is perfectly clean it will not absorb the goodness of skincare products that you're expecting to see.
