IPL 2021 Schedule, Fixtures, Timing, Date And Venues
IPL 2021 dates were announced on Sunday, March 7, by the BCCI. The cricket league is set to begin in the second week of April and will end around the first week of June. This season is ready to kick start from April 9 in Chennai. The recent big revelation of the world's biggest cricket stadium – Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will also see some matches. Even when Mumbai is seeing a surge in Covid-19 cases, it will host a few matches at their stadium behind closed doors.
There will be 56 matches and these will be held at Ahmedabad, Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru. While Ahmedabad and Delhi will host eight matches, each the rest of the cities will host 10 matches each. A big change for this year's VIVO IPL edition is the fact that all matches will be played at neutral venues that means no team gets to play at their home ground.
The BCCI Treasurer Arun Singh Dhumal says, "It is tough but at least this way we are getting to play. We are working on getting our players vaccinated. The government's directive is that frontline workers and the most vulnerable will be the first to get vaccinated, but we are in touch with the government to get our players vaccinated."
After having hosted the tournament safely in the UAE last year, keeping all safety protocols in place, BCCI is confident of hosting the IPL at home this year with health of the players being paramount.
With the schedule and fixture released the players will travel only thrice during the league thus reducing the risk. A call on allowing spectators will be taken at a later stage of the tournament.
