New BioActive Sensor on Upcoming Galaxy Watch Promises Breakthrough Health Features

Samsung is driving digital health innovation by simplifying health and wellness through comprehensive, personalized health tracking. According to the company, this effort is centered around Samsung's BioActive Sensor, which offers accurate health data. Samsung claims that the latest iteration of this sensor will debut in the next Galaxy Watch, enabling advanced predictive and preventative wellness features along with more accurate health measurements.

Introducing Samsung's New BioActive Sensor

The new BioActive Sensor is designed to enhance preventative health experiences with improvements for more precise insights. Samsung engineers have focused on three key upgrades: improving the performance of light-receiving photodiodes, adding more colors of light-emitting diodes (LEDs), and optimizing their arrangement across the sensor.

Samsung claims that the performance of each photodiode has been more than doubled, reducing the number required from eight to four. This redesign created space for additional and varied LEDs, which are now optimally placed across the sensor. According to the company, the new sensor includes Blue, Yellow, Violet, and Ultraviolet LEDs, alongside increased numbers of Green, Red, and Infrared LEDs. This integration allows Samsung to explore new aspects of health monitoring on wearables.

Greater Accuracy and New Preventative Wellness Possibilities

The optimized allocation of Green, Red, and Infrared LEDs enhances the accuracy and performance of the sensor across various health metrics. Samsung claims that this allows for more precise measurement of heart rate, sleep quality, blood pressure, blood oxygen levels, and stress levels. Heart rate measurement during intensive workouts is now 30% more accurate compared to the previous version.

According to Samsung, the diverse LED colors and newly designed photodiodes unlock new possibilities for predicting trends and proactive preventative care. One of the new features is an advanced glycation end products (AGEs) index, which indicates metabolic health and biological aging influenced by lifestyle and diet. This index serves as a biomarker for biological age, helping users make informed decisions about their wellness journey.

The next Galaxy Watch will introduce more sophisticated health and wellness tools to support users in achieving their goals. Samsung looks forward to revealing more details soon.
