Virat Kohli In Conflict of Interest With BCCI
A complaint has been filed against Indian cricketer Virat Kohli for holding positions in multiple business ventures, and violating norms of the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI), which bars an individual from doing so.
The complaint has been filed by Sanjeev Gupta, who is also a life member in Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association. Gupta wrote an e-mail to the BCCI ethics officer Dinesh Jain, CEO Rahul Johri and to the president of BCCI Sourav Ganguly.
The complaint pointed to Kohli's stature of holding multiple positions- one as the captain of the Indian cricket team and other as a co-director to companies- Virat Kohli Sports LLP and Cornerstone Venture Partners LLP.
Kohli has also been a co-director of Cornerstone Sport and Entertainment Pvt Ltd along with Amit Arun Sajdeh and Binoy Bharat Khemji.
Cornerstone Sport and Entertainment Pvt Ltd is the same talent company that handles the contracting and branding of Indian cricketers. The company also handles the commercial interests of cricketers such as KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Rishabh Pant, and Kuldeep Yadav.
In the mail, the complainant Gupta has asked Kohli to resign from any one post. Gupta has a previous record of filing complaints against cricketers such as Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid.
Cornerstone CEO Bunty Sajdeh termed allegations on Kohli absurd, saying that the name of the cricketer being “dragged” into the controversy is unfortunate.
